Colby's Wishing Star Park

The Colby Wishing Star Park is a project from Frank and Sara Moro had an idea in 2003 to create a park for handicapped children after Colby was born on April 30th 2002 with Down Syndrome. After joining the local Down Syndrome society we quickly saw that there was very little for handicapped children in the means of specialized park equipment available to them.
Most parks today are constructed in mind for children with normal intellectual and physical capabilities. Our Special Children need lower angles for slides and ladders, games that are suited for them to be challenged properly and what we feel is important shade. Full sun is fine but imagine a park that is set in a lightly wooded area.

CREATION OF A PARK

the Park will be created for handicapped children and their families in mind for a magical day of learning and stimulation. Structures that are properly adapted, theme gardens, texture gardens will be amongst the ideas that will be developed. The goal is to create an educative and recreative atmosphere for the children. The park will be wheelchair accessible also.

MANAGEMENT AND DESIGN OF THE PARK
Colby Wishing Star Park which is a registered non profit organization.

THE BEGINNING...

The owners of Select Plus International Nursery, Sara and Frank Moro, will initially be the first to support financially the project. Select Plus will put aside 1 acre of land for the beginning of the project and donate and plants and man power until the park can function on it's own with volunteers and fundraisers. The first fundraiser was the selling of the Colby Wishing Star lilac, pins and key chains.  It will be necessary however to find outside sourcing of money to help. The first big fundraiser will be in 2006 on June 9-10 with the first Horticultural Days Event. See the links below for extra information
We will in the future have a page for those who have made substantial donations.

The Park will be located at the following address and is not yet built. Some land has been cleared for it and we are starting our first Fund Raisers in 2006 for equipment.
The address of the location of the park is on our nursery at
